"If only more people understood that word sweetheart."
He takes a deep breath.
"The world would be a different place."-Frank L. Golon
99 years young and one of the smartest men I know. His heart is pure. He is one of the great ones.
I look at him with such love and admiration. Life came with struggles and hardships and devastating loss but my Grandfather has lived and continues to live his life knowing what it means to love and be loved.
If you ask him, he will tell you his family is his greatest achievement. He looks at each and every one of us with such pride and joy.
He shared a great love with my Grandmother for 73 years... not a perfect love, but a lifelong love that was their treasured and beautiful love story. This love story has become a part of all that he continues to be. He misses her so much. We all do.
My Grandfather served in World War II. He fought in The Battle of The Bulge. He was a Union leader for Ford Motor Company. He marched for equality in Selma, Alabama with Martin Luther King, Jr. He lost his son Wayne L. Golon during the Vietnamm War AND he taught us all, to never give up on our dreams, when he published his first book- Johnny Romanek: The Start Of An Era. at the age of 98.
His voice is strong and his heart is genuine. He is so much a part of who I am today. He is the one who taught me at a very young age, that while our voice can be very powerful in this loud and hectic world, it should only be used for good. To be the person who always looks to help others. To stand up for what is right and to always do your best to leave your mark...to make this world a better place.
He has seen and done so much. He has worked so damn hard for his family, this country and our world.
He must look around at all that is happening today and think....we have all gone mad. Yet, his message today was simple as he read my shirt aloud.
I LOVE, LOVE.
"Yes, sweetheart. Me too. So you do your part and keep on spreading that message. Every. Single. Day...into the world."
We are so incredibly lucky to have such an amazing role model and hero as the head of our perfectly, imperfect family. Cheers to you GRANDPA! I love you more than you could ever know.
